AUSSIE RULES at Lanwades
Kirsten Rausing, General Manager of Lanwades Stud, today announced that European and US Group/Grade 1 winning miler AUSSIE RULES has been leased by Lanwades to stand the Southern Hemisphere seasons at Sr Gaston Balbi's Haras Arroyo de Luna in Argentina.
AUSSIE RULES, who won the French 2,000 Guineas (Poule d'Essai des Poulains) and the Shadwell Mile at Keeneland, was also a Group winner in Newmarket at 2 years and he has the distinction of having won at four of the leading racecourses of the world: The Curragh, Newmarket, Longchamp and Keeneland.
AUSSIE RULES is a son of the great "sire of sires", DANEHILL, and his dam, LAST SECOND, bred by Lanwades and Airlie Studs, was amongst the leading fillies of Europe of her generation. She hails from the famous "AL" family which has in recent years produced European Group One winners ALBORADA, ALBANOVA, YESTERDAY, QUARTER MOON and ALLEGRETTO, along with a number of sales-topping yearlings.
His first crop being now 4-year-olds, AUSSIE RULES is already the sire of the winners of over €2 (US $2.6) million, including 7 individual Group/Stakes winners, amongst them DJUMAMA (Champion 2-year-old filly, Germany), and CAZALS (2nd Gr.1 Derby Italiano). The sires' second crop, 3-year-olds of 2012, already counts nine individual winners (to 14th April).
Haras Arroyo de Luna, in Buenos Aires province, is already a leading producer of outstanding racehorses, including FORTY LICKS (Champion 3-year-old, multiple Gr.1 winner), ASIATIC BOY (U.A.E. Derby, Gr.2, in Dubai), the unbeaten GOLD FOR SALE (Argentine 2,000 Guineas), and Champion 3-year-old colt DANCING FOR ME.
"Broodmare daughters of our Champion sire, NOT FOR SALE, will suit AUSSIE RULES particularly well. We are very pleased to be standing a son of DANEHILL" commented Gaston Balbi of Haras Arroyo de Luna.
Kirsten Rausing, Chairman of The Thoroughbred Breeders' Association (of Great Britain) added: "This new co-operation between Lanwades and Haras Arroyo de Luna highlights the continuing internationalisation of the world Thoroughbred breeding industry. We are delighted to form this Joint Venture between two leading independent stud farms".
AUSSIE RULES enters quarantine in mid-June and will return to Lanwades before Christmas, in good time for the 2013 Northern Hemisphere breeding season.
