News from Rich Hill Stud in New Zealand where SIR PERCY has stood for two Southern Hemisphere seasons...

MARKET CHASES CRACK SIR PERCY COLT

A stand-out colt from the first crop of Rich Hill Stud's dual Gr.1 winner SIR PERCY presented a unique opportunity at Karaka where he was the subject of spirited bidding on Monday afternoon. The bay youngster was the only representative of the Epsom Derby winner in New Zealand Bloodstock's National Weanling Sale and the market reacted accordingly.

A half-brother to three winners, he was eventually knocked down to the final $56,000 bid of the Auckland-based bloodstock agent Paul Willetts. "It was really exciting and there was huge competition on the horse so it was a great result for us and SIR PERCY" Rich Hill studmaster John Thompson said. "He was a lovely, correct individual and very athletic and typical of what the stallion has been leaving. It really does augur well for next year's yearling sale."

The colt is out of the winning ROYAL ACADEMY mare BIENNALE who is a half-sister to the Gr.1 All-Aged Stakes DES’S DREAM and the family of the multiple Australian Gr.2 winner NATURAL BLITZ. SIR PERCY is one of only six horses to win the Gr.1 Dewhurst Stakes at two and the following year the Gr.1 Epsom Derby in which he beat the high-class DYLAN THOMAS.

England's champion three-year-old of 2006, the son of MARK OF ESTEEM will stand at Rich Hill Stud this season at $15,000 + GST.
